eCarTec 2009 – the future starts now

The trade fair eCarTec was held for the first time at the New Munich Trade Fair Centre 13-15 October 2009 under the patronage of Martin Zeil, the Bavarian State Minister for Economics, Infrastructure, Transport and Technology. The trade fair, which took place parallel to MATERIALICA – 12th international specialist trade fair for material applications, surfaces and product engineering, was a major success. 10,624 and over 150 journalists took the opportunity to meet over 195 international exhibitors and to experience the mobility concepts of the future.

The main focus of eCarTec was on testing, and experimenting with, new concepts: Many visitors were more than willing to experience what it is like to drive an electrically driven sports car, to accelerate an e-bike or electric scooter and to discover pure driving pleasure. Interested parties were given the opportunity to test drive electric vehicles like the Tesla Roadster or the E-Mini at the eCarTec Test Area. The main focus of eCarTec, however, was on the technology used for the electric vehicle. The trade fair covered the topics of storage technologies, drive and engine technology, engineering & supply, energy & infrastructure as well as financing. Moreover, the eCarTec Award was granted, in five categories, for the most innovative and promising projects, products and technologies in the field of electric mobility (see separate press release).

Robert Metzger, Managing Director at MunichExpo Veranstaltungs GmbH and organiser of eCarTec, comes to the following conclusion: "The grand opening of this trade fair was a major success. With eCarTec, we managed to establish the first market for electric mobility worldwide. The gathering crowds of visitors proved that the future of mobility starts today and not in a few years. The desired synergy effect with MATERIALICA has also worked very well. The most important thing for us is for our exhibitors to be satisfied, and with great joy we have in fact received lots of praise from everyone".

"We had many interesting discussions, made good contacts and welcomed a continuous flow of visitors to our trade fair stand".
Franziska Schuth, coordination of PR and exhibitor contributions Mini E, powered by Vattenfall, Vattenfall Europe AG.

The trade fair has definitely exceeded our expectations. We did not expect so many visitors, and the number of experts was very high. It was an overall success."
Nina Bichlmaier, Automotive Marketing Manager, ESG GmbH.

"The quality and quantity of the visitors was simply extraordinary."
Margarita Kapaun, Product Marketing, Magna Steyr.

"It was a major success. The quality and quantity of the visitors was simply incredible". Thomas Grübel, Managing Partner, GOVECS GmbH.

"We underestimated the trade fair in the beginning. It was quite incredible to see such a high number of visitors throughout the three trade fair days."
Norbert Grabotin, Marketing Manager, RUF Automobile.

"The trade fair was a positive surprise for us, in which we are highly satisfied with the entire event." Björn Richter, Business Development Manager, Leclanché.

"Our trade fair stand was very crowded throughout all three days. We were able to lead many specialist discussions."
Arthur Otto, Director Sales, Continental Engineering Services.

The next eCarTec will take place 19-21 October 2010, which is an event that many electric mobility experts have most likely jotted down on their calendars already. MATERIALICA will also be held in parallel with this event.
